Critique Appertaining To Books Tears Of The Renegade (Famous Firsts #4)
** 3.5 stars **Early Linda Howard, not as good as most of her books.

This is the first book I read by this author and I am understanding, from other reviews, that she gets better with time. I understand that this is her first book so I gave her two stars instead of one because it has to be incredibly hard to write a full book for the first time. Lord knows I never have, so who I am to judge I guess...anyway, this book was just not for me. I made myself finish it but now I wish I hadn't. Let me save you some time and tell you about this book in a few sentences.

I didn't see the end coming. Like the poor heroine, I was clueless throughout. Good for you Ms. Howard!I love early contemporaries by Linda Howard. They are such train-wrecks! (But in a good way.) And so freaking hot! I don't know how she does it but the chemistry is usually off the charts.Cord is the black sheep of the Blackstone family and Susan is his cousin's widow. They meet when he returns to the fold, looking for revenge for the way he had been treated as a youth. There's a lot of enmity

The Romance genre continues to enter my reading realm with a significant handicap, and this book didn't help matters much. I'd classify it as mildly palatable. I didn't get excited about reading it, and there feels like there's some verisimilitude lacking when "love" develops on as quick a timeline as it does here. That said, every romance story has to have some degree of sub-plot woven into the romance. That made this one a LITTLE easier to stomach. Maybe my testosterone inevitably gets in the

The end saved this book for me. I really wasnt liking the direction for most of the book, but I am a sucker for a good ending. Overall, I just didnt like the behavior of any of the characters. I felt they were all in the wrong except for the heroine and she just frustrated the crap out of me. The surprise twist did make me feel better about the hero though. I do think he should have groveled more to the heroine. The epilogue was sweet.

Susan (29) has never known anyone like Cord Blackstone. His pale blue eyes shine with temptationand dark menace. Cord has a score to settle with his familythe same clan that sheltered Susan after her husband's death. He will stop at nothing to punish the Blackstoneseven if it means ruining the one woman who can't stop loving him.Its one of older Linda Howard's work and quite typical of the romance genre in the 80s. Strong and ruthless hero seeking out for revenge. Beautiful and helpless heroine

This guy is amazingly talented: "if he had released her then, stepping back to remove his clothes, she might have had a chance, but he stayed with her." He then went on to undress her, adjust his own clothing, put on protection, and complete the act. All without stopping kissing her or moving away from her.
