Rosie Hopkins enjoys her work as an auxiliary nurse in London and her boyfriend Gerard, so why would she want to leave to take care of an old great-aunt she's barely ever met? So what if she's between jobs right now and so what if Gerard hasn't proposed in 7 years of dating? Well, great-aunt Lillian helped provide for Rosie's family and now she needs help selling her house, sweet shop and finding a nursing home so Rosie heads to the wilds of Derbyshire to care for Aunt Lillian. Rosie finds a

My go to author for a feel-good, heartwarming read is Jenny Colgan.Sweetshop of Dreams is the first book featuring Rosie Hopkins. (Note that this was released in the UK as Welcome To Rosie Hopkins' Sweetshop Of Dreams.)"Rosie Hopkins thinks leaving her busy London life, and her boyfriend Gerard, to sort out her elderly Aunt Lilian's sweetshop in a small country village is going to be dull. Boy, is she wrong."Rosie arrives in Lipton and makes her presence immediately known, through a series of

This was such an enjoyable quick read! I didn't believe I actually love this novel, but I did and I am glad, because - every once in a while - I need a light read to unwind from all the doom and gloom of my regular reading choices. To find a book that is cheerful and quirky, but not silly or centered around a sloppy romance, is a real discovery.The blurb of the edition I bought mentions the word indulgence and it pretty much summarizes the essence of Jenny Colgan's novel. Throughout the book, we

I absolutely loved this book.I have read the Cupcake books and loved them and this was was as good. However having said that I am probably half a stone heavier as Jenny did recommend reading this eating sweets so, always one to do as I'm told, I sat down with my sherbet lemons, liquorice (or licorish, as Lilian would say) and chocolate limes and munched my way through this wonderfully sweet (no pun intended!) book.I just loved Rosie and Lilian and liked the stories of their loves and lives;

A lovely uplifting tale, that was made all the more delicious by being set in a traditional sweet shop. A beautiful story about seizing the day, and enjoying each and every moment as if it was a sweet melting fleetingly on your tongue. I really enjoyed the twin narratives of both the leading ladies which showed how choices made in your youth can have lasting ripples throughout the whole of your life. It was touching to see how the project of restoring the neglected sweet shop also breathed

How on earth did I spend 36 years on this planet and not read any Colgan books? This was just absolutely wonderful! I laughed out loud, I teared up - a perfectly wonderful book.The story features Rosie (well, of course) who is an auxiliary nurse stuck in a severe rut. Her great-aunt Lilian is poorly, and Rosie is cajoled into staying in the country with her to take care of her as she recovers, and to sell Lillian's sweet shop next door, in order for Lillian to go into a home. Rosie's adventures
