I like this book. The chapters are short, the points are concise. As a foreigner, my childhood experience is somewhat different from the book. I would say this book is more catered towards middle class white children. However, as globalization becomes more of a reality, my friends in China are actually learning to raise their children the same way. The general tone and message about being truly present in your kids' lives was good. Lots of obvious advice and suggestions (some even a little cheesy or for children much younger than mine). I sort of pity the family that wasn't already doing many of these things but all of us parents experience the long days/short years phenomenon and it is great to be armed with a good attitude and some tips.

The only part of this book I found remotely interesting was the fact that it said "There are only 940 Saturdays between a child's birth and her leaving for college...if your child is five years old, 260 Saturdays are already gone." And that is only likely because my daughter is about to be 5. The remainder of the book was spent telling you it would give you great ideas in the scond half of the book, which I felt was lacking. Basically a reminder to unplug and prioritize while you still can.

I agree with the general concepts in this book wholeheartedly, and I appreciated many of his ideas and his thinking on how to spend quality time with your children in new and different ways. I think there is lots of good advice to be found here.However, the tone of the book, particularly toward the beginning, came off a bit presumptuous and judgmental to me. Overall this was a parenting book I heard about on a parenting podcast and while giving the interview with the author I didnt want to punch him. typically that is my reaction to most people who claim they have an ideal parenting philosophy. I would give this closer to 3.5 stars. Some of the book wasn't applicable to my stage of parenting as it was written more for parents of teenagers, but for the most part these simple ideas for finding more connections with your kids were ones I could see

A few interesting tidbits. Love the short chapters and the cut to the chase no beating around the bush format. My main displeasure in this book was that it consists of a lot of obvious things that didn't really need to be written down somewhere.
