THIS BOOK SUCKED ME RIGHT IN!!!Fantastic art style!!! The way the artist carries you through out the story panel by panel, page by page is astounding! I have read this a few months ago, but I was way too overwhelmed to write a review for it. It left me speechless and I can't stop thinking about it FOR DAYS, even weeks. And after all these months, how i wish i could erase it from my memory and reread it and experience the feeling it gave me all over again. I wasn't even into this kind of genreWhen I first read it, it's really hard for me to understand why Asano-sensei used caricatured bird to depict his protagonist---not to mention the absurd Afro God (who actually never really answers Punpun's question) and the God of Poop...Who cares? Didn't my childhood no less absurd than that? So I go on reading and ignoring the bleak boring adult inside me who insisted everything has to be logical.Punpun is a super-serious little man who tried to be optimistic in a deadly miserable
What makes this series great isnt the story itself, its how it portrays the epitome of human struggles and suffering, how people develop and how some children are forced to grow up too fast when life is cruel and unfair. Very human characters that make you feel genuine emotion for the suffering they have no choice but to endure.
I read all 147 volumes. All of them were perfect. Lots were funny, some were happy, most of them were sad, and alot of them were thrilling (in a terrifying sorta way). This was a big emotional roller-coaster ride that everyone should read. It is life, complicated and sad and it will not stop throwing shit at you. I will definitely read this again and again.
This is one of the most bizarre mangas that I've read. Not sure what to say about it, and not sure if I want to keep reading the series. So weird. Though I love Asano's drawing!
Unexpectedly dark and deep and kind of depressing... I suppose...
The most engaging and wildly original coming-of-age tale I've ever had the pleasure to read. With beautifully detailed artwork and a story that balances deadly serious themes with wacky surreal humor, this series is sure to strike a chord with many if not all the young adults who come across it. Inio Asano is by far the most imaginative voice of this generation. Even though his characters' and stories' hearts lie with Japan, their feelings and tribulations are universal enough to appeal to
