I loved this book...until the end. Empress was more of a bitch than was normal.for.her character. Also the end felt way too rushed. All that build up and just acquiescence. Readers deserves a bit more resolution and a way better epilogue. But the book itself I loved before the last five pages.

This is my first book by Susan Johnson and she is certainly a great storyteller. The pages flew by because the action was always ongoing. On the downside, I thought the book was overly wordy at times. I gave the book 4 stars because of a few pet peeves. Trey Black could do no wrong; he could bust broncos, play the piano divinely, woo women, speak French, argue intelligently for and against legislation in Congress, kill with his bare hands, help find game in the fall/winter for his clan, take
