Ilustration Toward Books Suzanna's Surrender (The Calhouns #4)
Burned-out and tired as hell, the only thing ex-cop Holt Bradford wanted to do was relax. But when beautiful single mom Suzanna invaded his solitude to search for the missing Calhoun emeralds, he couldn't say no. Holt was no longer the bad-boy teen Suzanna remembered. He'd grown into a dangerously sexy man—all the more reason to keep a safe distance. Suzanna wouldn't risk her well-ordered life for a man who could make her mouth go dry with a simple glance.Rating Regarding Books Suzanna's Surrender (The Calhouns #4)

I used to love a romance novel, but these days they annoy me. And old ones are especially problematic. I have so many issues with the Holt character: he is a surly bad boy with a lifelong chip on his shoulder for no apparent reason. He was a cop for ten years, in the vice department, then retired (with a medical for mental/anger issues? Because by all accounts he had those before.) He was shot, nbd, but he's crazy sensitive about having been stabbed. And he has real issues with social class. II know you should suspend belief somewhat while reading fictional books but the naivety and stupidity of the characters got to an overload point in this installment of the series. The con artist has broken into the home, attempted to harm multiple sisters, abducted Max to work for him then tried to kill him, etc etc yet they don't do decent back ground checks on the workers in their home is ridiculous. And to have private family conversations while the workers are around is ignorant as well.
"Suzanna's Surrender" is the fourth book in the Calhoun series, and the story of Suzanna, the oldest of the sisters and Holt.We are already aware of the plot by now- the missing emeralds, the painful suicide, the legacy, and the HEA of the other three sisters. Now its Suzanna's turn..Suzanna has gone through a lot of pain in her short life- an abusive marriage and a tumultuous divorce have left her with two beautiful kids who are her everything. She isnt unhappy, but she isnt happy either- until
Great book I love the way each book leads to the next in the series. You feel like a part of the family and celebrate when they find the necklace, eliminate the bad guy and solve the mystery
4.5 stars...The best in the series.
I think Nora Roberts did it again. Mixed mystery with romance and came up with another good book. And just for a little while you are transported to the books location.
