The book was generally great. I enjoyed reading it, and I liked how the book threw a question on 'right and wrong'. The story is rather creative, although the theme in the book seems to be quite similar to that of other stories by Werber. I was a bit disappointed by how the 'righteousness' of characters are almost predetermined, rather than allowing readers to decide. In that manner, it's a good fiction and a great fun to read, but I wouldn't recommend it as a good piece of literature because
A sight for sore eyes.
Absolutely amazed by the book! It opened my eyes on the subject of death: science and religion merge here while showing what is like to die. At times, the plot is a bit too predictable, but it has not spoiled my whole impression from the book.
I read that book when I was in high-school and it really did something to me; it's a clever and original novel about the discovery of the last land unknown to mean, Death. It's about discovery and passion, life and death and love and friendship, it's mythical and magical, it's moving and funny. And when I said it was 'clever', Bernard Werber's novels always are; he has a knack for teaching you things without your really noticing it. Here the lesson is about world's religions and myths. The
DNF That's it, I give up on this book...For the excitement and awesomeness I was expecting from a book about life after death, this is unbelievably boring. Everything is written so clinically, so devoid of enthusiasm. The author is merely reporting events and there is little attempt to fascinate the reader. Not to mention the depressing characters. The main character, Michael, is so passive and spiritless, I found it hard to keep reading the story through his eyes. You want to root for
I read Polish translation. What a deep moving and mind opening book... weird, disturbing, questionable but still deeply fascinating.

I'd give this book about 3.5 if possible...First of all the topic is quite interesting and unusual. The author tries to investigate the death with the pretty scientific approach. This is something awesome about this book (but sometimes not :P )So, a group of people tries to find out what's behind the life, ..er after death. They start with NDE (near death experience) and proceed with deeper and deeper coma. Starting from here I really liked the idea of the map of the dead world.
