Evaluate Of Books The Complete Liveship Traders Trilogy: Ship of Magic, The Mad Ship, Ship of Destiny (The Liveship Traders #1 - 3)
Huge change from the first person perspective of the Farseer trilogy. Beautifully rendered characters. I am always so floored by the culmination of events and the inter-connectedness of these lives.

The library had this as a single book, and it makes sense to rate the trilogy, because these are by no means stand-alone novels. In a lot of ways, this trilogy is better than the Assassin trilogy: multiple perspectives, more complex characters, a larger world with more context and richness, suspenseful arcs built and resolved at different points throughout. But I just can't go above three stars, for a few reasons:1) too much rape-as-plot-device. Surely there is a way to establish that a character

I'm reviewing all three together, not only because I read them together in a few days like I was in a fever dream, but also beause it's a true trilogy and everything was intricately plotted out to come together at the end of the last book. While there is an overarching plot and various subplots (Althea wants her ship back, Kennit wants to be PIRATE KING, Malta wants to be hot, there are these weird migrating snake things, and Wintrow just wants to go home okay), this series is very much built on

Simply the best fantasy novelist around. Actually to limit this praise to fantasy fiction is a disservice, as this transcends genres and should be read by everyone. The world starts with the Farseer trilogy and is explored further in this series; both are incredible and one should not be missed for the other, however, I do believe this trilogy is even more impressive in scope and depth than the former. Having said all of this, don't expect an easy ride. The world is hard and often unfair. You

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride,

I finished the first book in the trilogy, Ship of Magic, on May 24 and the last book in the trilogy, Ship of Destiny, on June 6. I am in awe of Robin Hobb's creative mind fashioning intertwining worlds in her various books. I first read her Farseer trilogy dealing with court intrigue and the magic of Skill and Wit. I jumped out of order next and read the Rain Wilds Chronicles dealing with dragons, a lost magical Elderlings civilization, and the genetic mutations of associating with dragons and

My third time reading this series and I still love it. Great character arcs, realistic relationships and a great start to the world Hobb has created. Cannot recommend enough.
