I didnt like this book as much as I thought I might, but then I wasnt going off of anything really for that basis. I found I had to put this book down every once in a while because I got tired of it. That could have been because I was in a car for hours on end while reading this book but Im positive it was also the book that didnt hold my attention. The first half did more than the second half. Although the specifics of the setting, plot and characterization of this 1987 novel are not remembered twenty or more years after I read it, I do remember being very, very impressed. Reminded me of The Pathfinder series. So much so, I could almost accuse him of plagiarizing himself.Concept was interesting with the backstory of the aliens, and the world, but the reader sees little of it. Majority of the story is Patience trying trying to sort out her thoughts from the Unwyrms.The ending was weird and abrupt. The last chapter was more of an epilogue that just told the reader what happened rather than as a story.

What an odd little book.

This is one of those books where you have to look past the cover & the name. Orson Scott Card brings out the depths of humanity with such clarity and meaning, wrapped in the cloak of a sci-fi adventure.

Generally, I liked this book. Specifically, I loved the idea of the headjars and headworms...very interesting sci-fi concept there. Card always has a nice and simple way of writing that just flows, that feels like someone is talking to you. So Wyrms was a breeze to get through. This book seems to have that fairytale element to it - what with characters that have names like Patience and Wreck and Ruin, the Wyrms and their enemy UnWyrm - which isn't a bad thing in my eyes, though I can see how it

I fully recommend this excellent book! Great characters and plot, lots of twists and epic struggle. I would happily have read a sequel if there had been one, but its stand alone as far as I know. Sadly it seems the story has been very much underrated and deserves a bigger and better reputation. There was something about the story and the characters which kept reminding me of the Dune books when they were at their best.
